Lineal acquires Forentec to expand cyber and OSINT reach

Lineal has bought Swiss digital forensics and cyber firm Forentec to deepen its eDiscovery and investigations offering across EMEA.

Lineal, the Kansas City-headquartered legal technology and eDiscovery company, has acquired Forentec, a Switzerland-based specialist in digital forensics, cybersecurity, eDiscovery, and open-source intelligence. The deal, announced on 14 October 2026, strengthens Lineal's footprint in Switzerland and expands its capabilities across the EMEA region. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 2015 and based in Dübendorf near Zurich, Forentec serves law firms, corporations, financial institutions, insurers, and public authorities on complex investigations, litigation support, cyber incident response, and intelligence gathering from publicly available sources. The firm grew from a digital forensics practice into a multidisciplinary team covering eDiscovery, managed review, cybersecurity, and OSINT.

The deal

Forentec founder and Managing Partner Lionel Bloch will remain with the business and join Lineal's global leadership, helping extend its cybersecurity and OSINT capabilities internationally. "We built Forentec around technical expertise, discretion, and the ability to help clients when the stakes are high," Bloch said. "Joining Lineal allows us to preserve those strengths while giving our clients access to a much broader global organisation, additional technology, and expanded eDiscovery and review capabilities."

Lineal chief executive Major Baisden framed the acquisition as a response to the blurring boundaries between legal discovery, digital forensics, and cyber investigation. "Digital investigations do not fit neatly into one category. eDiscovery, forensics, cyber security and intelligence increasingly intersect," he said, adding that Forentec expands the company's global discovery investigations offering.

The deal follows Lineal's recent appointment of David Kern as General Manager for EMEA. Kern previously served as Global Head of Processing and Review Management for eDiscovery at UBS in Zurich, and will act as a regional anchor for the combined entity as it pursues cross-border mandates across Europe.

Market context

The legal technology sector has seen sustained consolidation as law firms and corporates demand integrated platforms capable of handling the full lifecycle of a complex investigation, from initial data preservation through forensic analysis to managed review and regulatory disclosure. Standalone eDiscovery vendors face pressure to broaden into adjacent disciplines or risk being displaced by larger platforms.

OSINT and digital forensics have moved from specialist niches to near-standard components of corporate investigations, particularly in financial crime, sanctions compliance, and cyber incident litigation. Regulatory drivers are significant: the EU's NIS2 Directive, which came into force in October 2024, extended mandatory incident-reporting obligations to a wider range of entities and increased demand for rapid forensic response capacity. Switzerland, while not an EU member, has aligned much of its data-protection and cybersecurity framework with European standards under the revised Federal Act on Data Protection, which took effect in September 2023.

For Lineal, a Swiss base also provides a neutral jurisdiction with an established arbitration ecosystem, which is commercially valuable for international dispute matters where data sovereignty and cross-border evidence transfer are client concerns. The company's proprietary AmplifyAI platform, used for processing and reviewing large volumes of electronic data, gives it a technology differentiator as it integrates Forentec's forensic and intelligence workflows.

The next milestones for the combined business will include integrating Forentec's tools with AmplifyAI, winning cross-sold mandates from Forentec's existing Swiss client base, and demonstrating that the OSINT capability can be deployed at scale across Lineal's wider global caseload.
