ASUS ExpertBook A7 launches in US from $1,299
ASUS has announced general availability of the ExpertBook A7, a thin-and-light business laptop aimed at mobile professionals who want premium hardware at a price point below the company's flagship ExpertBook Ultra line. The device goes on sale in the United States from 14 October 2026, starting at $1,299.99, with a broader configuration sweep, including AMD Ryzen AI variants and models from $899, planned for January 2027.
The ExpertBook A7 introduces the new A Series within ASUS's commercial portfolio, sitting alongside the existing B and P series. Shawn Chang, General Manager at ASUS North America, said the product was designed around the components professionals interact with most: "Its precision-milled aluminum chassis, 3K OLED display, haptic touchpad, and 2.8 pound design bring a premium mobile experience to a broader range of professionals, backed by the security and support professionals expect."
Hardware and specifications
The chassis is CNC-milled from 6000-series aluminium alloy and measures 0.46 inches thick, weighing 2.82 lbs with battery fitted. The 14-inch panel is a 2880x1800 OLED at 120Hz with a 90% screen-to-body ratio, rated at 500 nits peak brightness, 100% DCI-P3 coverage and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 600 certification.
Launch configurations are powered by Intel Core 5 320 or Core 7 350 processors, both paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. The Intel AI Boost NPU is present, enabling on-device AI-accelerated workloads without cloud round-trips, though ASUS does not detail specific NPU use cases in the release. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, one USB Type-A, and HDMI 2.1.
Battery capacity is 65Wh; ASUS cites up to 26 hours of local video playback in internal testing at 50% brightness, with a 30-minute fast-charge restoring 50% of capacity. As with all vendor battery claims, real-world figures will depend heavily on workload mix and display settings.
On the security side, the device ships with TPM 2.0, Microsoft Secured-core PC compliance, FIDO2 fingerprint authentication, Intel Boot Guard and BIOS Guard, NIST SP 800-193-compliant firmware resilience, and a five-year commitment to BIOS and driver security patches. ASUS brands this stack as ExpertGuardian. MIL-STD-810H durability testing across 24 categories is also cited, though ASUS notes this covers laboratory conditions and does not imply fitness for military use. The three-year manufacturer's warranty includes accidental damage protection in the second and third years.
Market context
The premium commercial laptop segment has grown more competitive as the PC market navigates a post-pandemic normalisation cycle. Dell's Latitude, HP's EliteBook and Lenovo's ThinkPad remain the established reference points for enterprise buyers, while Microsoft's Surface Pro line targets hybrid tablet-laptop use cases. ASUS has been expanding its ExpertBook footprint steadily, and the A Series appears designed to compete on aesthetic and display quality at a price point that undercuts some of those rivals' premium tiers.
The January 2027 expansion to $899 configurations is strategically significant: at that price, the A Series would enter SMB procurement discussions where total cost of ownership, warranty coverage and security patch longevity are often the deciding factors. The five-year security update commitment directly addresses a known pain point for IT administrators managing mixed device fleets.
EPEAT Silver certification and the use of recycled aluminium content (up to 98% post-industrial recycled material in the top cover) positions the device for procurement programmes with sustainability scoring requirements, a growing criterion in European public-sector and large-enterprise tenders. Buyers in those segments should note that EPEAT Silver rather than Gold certification may affect scoring under some frameworks.
