ALTÉRRA and Domyn partner on sovereign AI for climate investing

Abu Dhabi climate fund ALTÉRRA is deploying Domyn's sovereign AI platform to sharpen market intelligence and capital allocation across the climate transition.

ALTÉRRA, the Abu Dhabi-headquartered climate investment vehicle launched at COP28 with a US$30 billion UAE commitment, has announced a partnership with Domyn, a sovereign AI platform provider for regulated industries. The collaboration will embed Domyn's AI technology into ALTÉRRA's investment intelligence operations, with the goal of improving the fund's ability to track technology trends, monitor shifting market dynamics, and identify emerging opportunities across the climate economy ahead of broader market recognition.

The arrangement is framed around what Domyn describes as sovereign AI: a deployment model in which the client organisation retains ownership and governance of the underlying intelligence layer, rather than depending on a shared third-party service. ALTÉRRA will operate the capability within a dedicated environment built to its own specifications, with governance controls and human oversight embedded by design. The fund says this approach is consistent with its requirement for traceable, evidence-based analysis in investment decision-making.

The partnership in detail

ALTÉRRA chief executive H.E. Majid Al Suwaidi said the fund sees AI as a way to identify where value is forming earlier than competitors. "Capital follows insight," he noted, arguing that combining ALTÉRRA's proprietary Impact Framework with Domyn's analytical capabilities would support more forward-looking capital allocation across the climate transition.

Domyn founder and chief executive Uljan Sharka framed the partnership in terms of institutional transformation rather than point-tool adoption. "The most powerful applications of AI help institutions become AI organisations in their own right," he said, citing the importance of building intelligence systems around a client's own data and expertise rather than generic models.

Domyn brings a notable set of institutional relationships and infrastructure assets to the deal. The company counts BNY as both a client and investor, alongside Eurizon Capital, Rabobank and Abu Dhabi's G42. It is also developing Colosseum, described as Europe's largest AI supercomputer, in partnership with NVIDIA and G42. In June 2026, a European consortium led by Domyn won the European Commission's Frontier AI Grand Challenge, a competition to develop an open-source model covering all 24 official EU languages.

Market and regulatory context

The sovereign AI model is gaining traction among regulated institutions that face strict data governance requirements and are wary of dependency on hyperscaler AI services. Sovereign approaches allow organisations to run models on infrastructure they control, which is relevant to ALTÉRRA given its exposure to sensitive deal data and proprietary impact metrics. This positions the partnership alongside a broader shift in enterprise AI procurement, where governance and auditability are increasingly weighted alongside raw model capability.

Climate-focused investment funds also face growing pressure to substantiate impact claims with rigorous methodology. The EU's Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation and the proposed corporate sustainability due-diligence frameworks place traceability requirements on investment processes that a structured, auditable AI layer could help satisfy, although ALTÉRRA operates primarily under Abu Dhabi Global Market regulation rather than EU frameworks directly.

ALTÉRRA's stated ambition is to mobilise US$250 billion globally by 2030 across its Acceleration, Transformation and Opportunity funds. Embedding AI into its investment intelligence function is positioned as a step toward making that capital deployment more systematic and commercially competitive. Whether the partnership translates into measurably improved fund performance will ultimately depend on the quality of proprietary data ALTÉRRA feeds into the system and the rigour of its human oversight layer. Domyn has not disclosed commercial terms or the timeline for the platform going live.
