Way2VAT APAI certified for Coupa spend management marketplace
Way2VAT (ASX: W2V) has received certification for its APAI Invoice Compliance Validation product on the Coupa App Marketplace, making the tool available to Coupa's enterprise customer base as a pre-built, integrated solution. The announcement marks a formal distribution partnership between the ASX-listed indirect tax specialist and the spend management platform provider.
APAI operates inside Coupa's existing invoice approval workflow. When an invoice enters the approval queue, Coupa automatically routes it to APAI, which uses Way2VAT's patented combination of computer vision and natural language processing to validate the document against country-specific tax rules. The system checks supplier details, VAT registration numbers, applicable rates, and invoice content across more than 40 countries, returning a verdict of compliant, warning, or non-compliant in real time, alongside plain-language reasoning. Finance and tax teams gain dedicated dashboards and exportable audit records, without leaving the Coupa interface.
The integration
Coupa's App Marketplace Partner Programme requires vendors to meet defined technical and interoperability standards before certification. For Way2VAT, marketplace listing reduces the integration overhead that enterprise procurement teams would otherwise face when adopting third-party compliance tooling alongside their primary spend platform.
Amos Simantov, CEO and founder of Way2VAT, said the integration gives customers "confidence that every invoice meets country tax rules before it moves forward," and framed the relationship as a foundation for broader collaboration covering the full VAT recovery cycle.
Eric Washer, SVP of Product Strategy at Coupa, pointed to tightening enforcement by tax authorities as the commercial driver. "With e-invoicing mandates expanding and tax authorities tightening VAT enforcement worldwide, the need for automated, in-workflow invoice compliance is imperative now," he said.
Market context
The indirect tax compliance software market is expanding rapidly, driven by a wave of mandatory e-invoicing regimes. Italy, France, Germany, Poland and a growing number of Asian and Latin American jurisdictions have either enacted or announced real-time or near-real-time e-invoicing requirements that shift compliance obligations upstream into the accounts payable process. This places pressure on spend management platforms to offer embedded compliance checking rather than relying on post-payment reconciliation.
Way2VAT competes in a space that includes established tax technology vendors as well as newer AI-native entrants targeting the AP automation workflow. Distribution through a platform marketplace such as Coupa's is an increasingly common go-to-market route, because it reaches finance teams at the point of invoice processing rather than requiring a separate procurement decision.
The Coupa platform itself is owned by private equity firm Thoma Bravo, which took the company private in 2023. Its customer base spans large enterprise and mid-market firms across manufacturing, professional services, and financial services, all of which face multi-jurisdictional VAT exposure on supplier invoices.
Regulatory read-across
The backdrop for this partnership is a sustained global push by tax authorities toward continuous transaction controls. The EU's VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package, expected to phase in from 2028, will require digital VAT reporting and structured e-invoicing across all EU member states. For enterprises operating across borders, a validated, country-specific check at the point of approval is increasingly a compliance necessity rather than a nice-to-have. Way2VAT's 40-country coverage positions it to address the geographic breadth that large multinationals require, though buyers will want to verify precisely which jurisdictions are fully supported and to what depth of rule-set coverage.
