XYPN adds Income Lab to member benefits after three years of demand

XYPN is making retirement income planning platform Income Lab available to its fee-only adviser network, after it topped member benefit requests in 2026.

A silver laptop displaying financial charts and data visualizations rests on a light wooden desk, with a notebook and pen beside it, in a brightly lit modern office with shelves and a plant in the background.

XYPN, the US-based business support network for fee-only financial planners, has formalised a partnership with Income Lab, adding the retirement income planning platform to its member benefits programme. The arrangement, which launched on 29 September 2026, gives XYPN's adviser membership access to Income Lab through the XYPN Partner Programme at a member rate.

The deal follows sustained demand from within the network. Income Lab ranked among XYPN's five most-requested member benefits for three consecutive years and reached the top position in 2026. More than 300 XYPN members were already paying customers of the platform before the partnership was announced, suggesting the arrangement formalises an existing relationship rather than introducing an entirely unfamiliar product.

What Income Lab offers

Income Lab's core proposition is retirement income planning: modelling withdrawal sequencing, tax-aware drawdown strategies, Roth conversion analysis, Social Security optimisation, and Medicare and IRMAA planning. The platform's methodology centres on spending-power projections and adjustment scenarios, which the company positions as a practical alternative to probability-of-success models that can be difficult to communicate to clients.

The platform has accumulated a credible third-party track record. It scored a 9.0 adviser satisfaction rating in both the 2023 and 2025 Kitces AdvisorTech studies, was named the top-rated retirement distribution planning tool in the T3 Software Survey for 2024, 2025 and 2026, and has won the XYPN AdviceTech Competition twice for two separate product offerings. These figures, drawn from recognised industry benchmarking studies, give the partnership more substantive grounding than a typical vendor announcement.

Income Lab co-founder and chief executive Johnny Poulsen said the company has always had ambitions beyond retirement planning: "Our vision has always been broader than any single planning discipline. We are continually expanding our capabilities to help advisors deliver more comprehensive, personalised recommendations across every stage of a client's financial journey."

The company says it is broadening the platform with productivity features and AI-driven functionality, though the release does not specify which AI capabilities are being introduced or on what timetable.

Market context

The wealthtech adviser-platform market has grown increasingly competitive as independent registered investment advisers (RIAs) consolidate and seek integrated technology stacks. Vendors such as eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, and RightCapital compete in the comprehensive financial planning segment, while more specialised tools including Income Lab and Holistiplan (tax planning) serve advisers who want depth in a single discipline alongside a primary planning platform.

XYPN occupies a specific niche within this landscape: its membership skews towards newer, smaller fee-only practices, many of which serve younger clients who are still in the accumulation phase and may have limited budget for a full enterprise software stack. Bundling a highly-rated retirement planning tool as a member benefit is a straightforward retention and recruitment mechanism for the network, and signals that XYPN is positioning itself as a one-stop infrastructure layer for independent advisers.

The broader regulatory environment adds context. The SEC's ongoing scrutiny of adviser technology conflicts, particularly around referral arrangements and revenue-sharing between platforms and vendors, means that the commercial terms of member benefit deals like this one can carry compliance implications. XYPN did not disclose the financial terms of the partnership, including whether Income Lab pays a referral or platform fee to the network.

For Income Lab, distribution through XYPN represents a low-friction route into a community of independent practitioners who are already receptive to the product. The next milestone investors and competitors will watch for is whether the platform's expanding AI-driven feature set can broaden its positioning from specialist retirement tool to a more general-purpose planning layer.
