Atos completes global digital workplace rollout for Orange Business
Atos has completed the delivery phase of a large-scale digital workplace programme for Orange Business, the enterprise services arm of the Orange Group. Branded internally as "MyDesk", the programme was the first initiative of its kind to externalise digital workplace services within Orange Business at this scale, covering roughly 30,000 users in more than 60 countries under a seven-year contract signed in early 2024.
The two-year migration was conducted in successive stages, beginning in France before expanding to major service centres and then rolling out globally. Atos says the phased approach was chosen to preserve service continuity while progressively scaling the new operating model.
The platform and what it delivers
At the technical core of MyDesk is a unified IT Service Management platform built on ServiceNow, consolidating what the release describes as multiple legacy support chains into a single global operating model. End-user services now include multi-level service desks, on-site "tech bars" for local support, a centralised service catalogue, and device management capabilities, all surfaced through a single portal.
Marc Lachaize, head of digital workplace at Atos France, said the programme demonstrated Atos's ability to deliver complex, large-scale workplace programmes "combining operational excellence, innovation, and sustainability." Emmanuel Berre, head of digital workspace at Orange Business, added that the result provides "a strong foundation for future innovation."
The sustainability dimension of the contract deserves attention. Atos has implemented carbon reporting tooling to measure emissions associated with both services and devices, alongside Green IT practices aimed at extending device lifecycles and reducing overall environmental footprint. This reflects a broader industry shift in which enterprise buyers are increasingly requiring sustainability metrics to be embedded in outsourcing contracts rather than treated as optional add-ons.
On the generative AI front, both parties are still at the workshop stage, exploring how large language model capabilities could be used to automate processes within the MyDesk environment. No specific timeline or product commitment was given.
Market context and competitive positioning
The managed digital workplace market is a mature but actively consolidating segment. Legacy outsourcers including Wipro, HCL Technologies, DXC Technology and Unisys compete alongside systems integrators such as Infosys and Capgemini, all vying for large-enterprise contracts that combine service desk, device management and now AI-augmented support tooling.
Atos has operated in this space for years, but the company's broader financial restructuring in 2024 and 2025 raised questions among enterprise buyers about delivery continuity and financial stability. Completing a globally distributed, 30,000-seat programme within a two-year window is operationally significant and represents a reference case the vendor will use actively in competitive bids.
ServiceNow has become the de facto ITSM platform of record for large enterprise deals, and Atos's choice to anchor the architecture there is consistent with current market practice. Buyers evaluating competing proposals will typically expect ServiceNow or a comparable platform-native approach rather than bespoke tooling.
Regulatory and sovereign considerations
The programme includes a dedicated sovereign support model for specific user populations, a detail that points to data-handling obligations in regulated jurisdictions within Orange's global footprint. As EU digital sovereignty frameworks tighten, including obligations under NIS2 and the ongoing elaboration of the European Cyber Resilience Act, large outsourcers are under growing pressure to demonstrate they can ring-fence sensitive workloads within defined legal and geographic boundaries.
The next milestone for this engagement will likely be the publication of measurable operational improvements, including incident resolution times and user satisfaction scores, alongside any announced expansion of the generative AI capabilities still under evaluation.
