Cerebras and Oracle to bring wafer-scale inference to OCI in 2027

Cerebras Systems and Oracle plan to offer Cerebras' wafer-scale AI inference on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, targeting a 2027 general availability date.

Cerebras and Oracle to bring wafer-scale inference to OCI in 2027

Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ: CBRS) and Oracle have announced a partnership to make Cerebras' high-speed AI inference available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The integration is planned for calendar year 2027, giving OCI customers an additional compute option for latency-sensitive AI workloads, particularly agentic applications that chain multiple model calls in sequence.

The move extends OCI's existing inference portfolio, which already includes Dedicated AI Clusters under its Enterprise AI umbrella. Neither company disclosed commercial terms, pricing tiers, or which Cerebras models will be available at launch.

The technology case

Cerebras' core hardware differentiator is its Wafer-Scale Engine (WSE), a processor that integrates compute and memory on a single wafer rather than linking discrete chips through high-bandwidth memory stacks or inter-chip interconnects. The company argues this design materially reduces data-movement overhead, enabling faster token generation, particularly for long reasoning sequences of the kind required by chain-of-thought and multi-step agentic workflows.

Andrew Feldman, co-founder and chief executive of Cerebras, framed the partnership around the latency demands of agentic AI: "Every step an agent makes requires inference, whether it's reasoning, checking its work, or taking action. The faster the inference, the more work AI can do without making users wait."

Mahesh Thiagarajan, president of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, said customers need compute options matched to specific performance profiles. "Bringing Cerebras' inference to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure will add another ultrafast and deterministic option to our broad compute portfolio," he said.

Market context

The managed AI inference market has become one of the most competitive segments in the cloud stack. Hyperscalers including AWS (via Bedrock), Microsoft Azure (via the Azure OpenAI Service) and Google Cloud (via Vertex AI) are the dominant entry points for enterprise buyers, but a growing tier of specialist inference providers, among them Groq, Together AI, and Fireworks AI, competes on raw throughput and token economics.

Cerebras already sells inference-as-a-service on its own cloud, where it has published benchmark figures claiming token-generation rates significantly above GPU-based alternatives for certain model families. Routing that capability through OCI gives the company access to Oracle's established enterprise customer base, including users already operating data workloads on OCI who may prefer to keep AI inference within a single cloud environment.

Oracle has been an active infrastructure player in the AI build-out cycle, most notably through its position in the OpenAI-aligned data-centre investment consortium and its own GPU cluster expansion. The Cerebras partnership adds a non-GPU, wafer-scale option to a portfolio that otherwise skews heavily toward Nvidia-based compute.

Regulatory and forward-looking considerations

The 2027 timeline means this integration will land as the EU AI Act's obligations on general-purpose AI models are in fuller effect, and as US export-control rules around advanced AI accelerators continue to evolve. Cerebras, which listed on NASDAQ in 2024, noted in its forward-looking disclosures that its commercial concentration remains significant: OpenAI, Group 42, and AWS are among its named material customers, meaning the Oracle channel could help diversify revenue exposure.

For OCI enterprise customers, the practical near-term question is whether wafer-scale inference will be available in the same regions as their existing OCI tenancies, and what the data-residency and compliance posture will be. Neither party addressed those points in the release. Investors and buyers will look for named customer pilots and published latency benchmarks as the 2027 availability date approaches.
